Palermo It’s full of foreigners and the bar Asiaka brings them together. It is the place to rest from the croissants and choripanes, and try some of our local fishing in hand roll format (open rolls, made on the spot), sushi, poke or simply in a asian inspired cuisine dish. The prices are acceptable, and you can have a bite to eat and continue, without much ceremony. A very cosmopolitan concept, well executed.
The specialty is hand rolls, which are fashionable in Buenos Aires (start one and they all follow… how are we!), and come in combos of 4, 6 and 8 units. The crunchy nori seaweed wraps very fresh fish – croaker, sole, chernia, prawns, scallops, oysters, trout and salmon, among others – and vegetarian options with a variety of mushrooms, seaweed and seasonal vegetables. Each roll is finished with sauces, ferments, fresh herbs or spices that enhance the flavor.
There’s also sashimi and nigiri (the rice is well cooked and at a good temperature) and ceviches and tiraditos to order à la carte or in an omakase version, that is, leaving the choice in the hands of itamae Daniel Avico. Avico has a long history in Asian cuisine restaurants, including his time in the kitchens of Pablo Nohara and Edgar Kuda, two great Italians who master the art of combining national products with Japanese techniques and ingredients.
There is cooking specials such as Kare Rice (Japanese-style curry), scallops au gratin with parmesan (a delicacy of Nikkei cuisine – a fusion with Peruvian cuisine), and edamame (soybean pods of which only the beans are eaten) with spicy sauce.
They have one good selection of sakes, with different features and varied prices. We recommend that you take advice and explore the subtlety and power of this “rice wine” that can be drunk hot or cold.
During the day, Asiaka is a large fish tank full of light where you can immerse yourself and regain strength to continue the day. At night, the lighting is not its forte, but the voices of diners from around the world and the action behind the bar will keep you very entertained.
