Good to see youthat’s the name of The Woods’ new album. This makes the third EP by the soul rockers from the North a fact. Groovy rock music with a big pump of the seventies. But the record didn’t come without a fight.
“You also have to fight for it a bit,” laughs frontman Joris Bos.
That summarizes the process of the album nicely, according to Bos. In addition to him, the band consists of bassist Martijn Drijfhout, drummer Pieter Dokter (who won the Drentse Popprijs in 1998) and Hammond keyboardist Johan Zielstra (who has always been committed to music as a teacher and cultural advocate at Dr. Nassaucollege Quintus, including at the Asser Blues Days).
Bos often starts the writing process at home and then presents his plans to the rest of the band. “We had a lot of discussion about what it should sound like,” says the frontman. “Sometimes someone has to make the decision. Then I often take on that task,” he smiles.
And this is what it turned out to be: Good to see you. Very happy with it.”
This year, for the first time, the men joined forces with a producer elsewhere in the country, and that is paying off according to Bos. According to him, the producer also has all kinds of ideas that will make the record better. “We are very happy with the end result.”
The official record presentation of Good to see you is next Friday at pop venue Vera in Groningen. On stages where legendary bands such as The Ramones and Nirvana stood, the men of The Woods put on a big live show. “We wanted to go a bit bigger this time, so we invited the singers, we have a guest musician and we have support,” he says.
A day later – Saturday – The Woods can be admired during the Asser Blues Days. They then travel to the rest of the country with their new record.
