Flemish Minister of Education Zuhal Demir (N-VA) promised earlier this month that she will release approximately 5.4 million euros annually to tackle the asbestos problem in schools. She did this after the HLN research cell discovered that 9 out of 10 tested schools are not asbestos safe. According to opposition party Groen, asbestos removal will be too slow and more budget must be made available. “Their calculation is incorrect,” responds Minister Demir’s spokesperson.
