Abel Tesfyae aka The Weeknd is currently working on a film project. So far there is no information about the title, plot or genre. However, a lot is known about the production.
The 32-year-old co-wrote the script with Reza Fahim and is also co-producing the film. The two previously co-wrote the upcoming HBO series The Idol. They were joined by the project’s director, Trey Edward Shults (“Krisha”, “Waves”).
Tesfaye will take on one of the main roles in the project himself. Alongside him will be Jenna Ortega and Barry Keoghen. Both are rising stars in Hollywood. The success of the Tim Burton-produced Netflix series Wednesday has quickly made Ortega a household name. Keoghen is nominated for Best Supporting Actor at this year’s Oscars for his role as Dominic in The Banshees of Inshirin.
The Weeknd is developing the soundtrack together with producer Daniel Lopatin. He appears under the pseudonym OPN and was also involved in the Canadian’s current album (“Dawn FM”).
In addition to his trips to the big screen and the smaller series screen, 2023 is also going well musically for the R&B singer. Shortly after releasing a remix of his 2016 song “Die For You” with Ariana Grande, Spotify announced on February 27 that he had become the first musician ever to surpass 100 million monthly listeners.
