One of the largest hunebeds in our province is damaged. There is therefore a crack in the cover stone his warning ribbons around the hunebed. And that is not the first time. That and more in this overview of the news from the past week.

On Monday it was announced that folding trailer manufacturer Campooz from Assen is being taken over by Kip Caravans in Hoogeveen. The Asser company was recently declared bankrupt, but can continue to exist thanks to the restart. Kip Caravans also wants to take the company’s employees with them. “We desperately need them,” said Thomas Gunnink of Kip about it. “Suitable staff is difficult to find and they already have the knowledge.”

Drenthe municipalities score well when it comes to generating electricity from solar panels. This is according to figures from the Central Bureau of Statistics. All municipality are above the national average with Tynaarlo as an absolute leader in Drenthe. In Assen and Meppel, on average, the least current per house is generated with solar panels.

This is not a huge surprise, because rural municipalities in particular score high when it comes to generating solar energy. This happens a lot less in the big cities. Amsterdam and Rotterdam are therefore at the bottom of the list of Dutch municipalities.

On Wednesday morning a fire broke out in Café Ponybar in Gieten. The fire was created in apartments at the back of the building. Those two houses were badly damaged and were declared uninhabitable. The café came out of the fire relatively undamaged. “We can be happy that it is still there,” said owner Henk-Jan Hadderingh later. A large fire wall between the apartments and the café brought salvation for the pub.

Nobody was injured in the fire.

And then the damaged hunebed D45 in Emmen. Due to a crack in a cover brick, a canopy ribbon was tense. The hunebed was also damaged in 2011. Then fire was fired under the stones so that the big stone tore. On the spot where that stone was repaired at the time, there is now another crack.

A special company is called in to assess the damage and to restore the stone, but that still has to wait a while because the company is closed because of vacation, according to a spokesperson for Staatsbosbeheer.

This week the Boerenrock Festival in Drouwenermond will go again. Building has already started so volunteers lugging cables, fences and an extra large party tent. “Yes, that’s really a showpiece,” says organizer René Boiten. “When he lay on the floor, it didn’t seem that big, but he just stands up and yes, it’s a megatent.”
