A requirement in the Yorneo case, the route that King Willem-Alexander will take in Emmen and wolf-resistant grids that do not appear to work properly. It all happened this week in Drenthe. A look back.
Seven years in prison. 20-year-old Jermaine S. from Emmen should receive that punishment, if it is up to the Public Prosecution Service (OM). He is seen by the Public Prosecution Service as the leader of a youth gang and incited vulnerable young people to commit robberies. Last year, such a robbery resulted in the death of a 26-year-old counselor at the Yorneo youth institution in Emmen. The court will make its ruling in March.
King Willem-Alexander and his family start King’s Day in Emmen on the Noorderplein. The municipality of Emmen announced this on Tuesday. The city squares in the city center form a common thread, because they are visited one by one. Mayor Eric van Oosterhout is enthusiastic about the route. “The king walks through both the old and the new part of the center. And along the way there is plenty of room for spectators to follow the king’s visit up close.”
The number of completed new-build homes fell again in Drenthe last year, according to figures from Statistics Netherlands. This decline was particularly noticeable in the municipalities of Westerveld and Coevorden. Contrary to the trend, more new houses were built in the municipalities of Meppel, Midden-Drenthe and Tynaarlo. An important reason for the decline in new-build homes is the slow issuing of permits for construction sites.
Problems with protection against the wolf in Drenthe. Because mobile wolf grids with five or six wires do not work sufficiently in the habitat of the wolf pack in the Drents-Friese Wold. That is the outcome of a meeting of the Drenthe wolf committee. In one month, a wolf probably managed to get through an approved wolf grid with wires eight times.
At the end of the week, protesting farmers will be at the provincial government building because of ‘unworkable and undesirable nature and nitrogen measures’. “Our demands must be met on Valentine’s Day, otherwise we will come back less friendly,” warns Jan Uineken, spokesman on behalf of the protesting farmers. “And we will also bring a present, because we will certainly give back the amount of shit and filth that we have received in recent years.”
