A strike, a reappointment and a statement about a fatal accident surfaced in the main lines of the Drenthe news this week. In De Week van Drenthe we look back on it.
The week started on Monday with a strike in Coevorden, where staff at floor manufacturer Forbo-Novilon went on strike. The staff wants higher wages and a lower workload.
On Tuesday there is a real manhunt going on in Hoogeveen. Police officers and boas are hot on the heels of more than 80 students. They play their own version of the popular TV show Hunting season. The aim for the students is not to be tagged, it is a playful way to get to know the police and enforcement officers.
On Wednesday it will be announced that Jetta Klijnsma will stay longer as King’s Commissioner. Normally, an appointment is for six years, but Klijnsma will not complete the term because of her age.
A 20-year-old man from Dwingeloo received two years of juvenile detention on Thursday, one year of which was suspended for causing a fatal accident near Havelte in April last year. The man had been drinking when he crashed into a tree, young people were killed.
On Friday Drenthe wakes up in a white province. Great for snow lovers, but not for cycling enthusiasts. Due to the weather conditions, cycling race De Acht van Westerveld was halted after two laps. The Tour of Drenthe in the weekend can be completed with the necessary adjustments.
