The Week of Drenthe: Drug waste affects Drents-Friese Wold and residents tax flat are burning away

Kittens Nollie and Nellie were left behind on the train between Breda and Zwolle, but have now found a place with childminder Anne Alting in Emmen. “I was at the shelter to deliver a few kittens. They were big enough to be placed. And then you usually bring something new, in this case Nellie and Nollie.” The kittens will stay with Alting for a while until they are big enough for a new place to live.

Two brothers from Pessen, aged 12 and 19, died on Thursday in a traffic accident. It happened in Meppen, Germany, just across the border from Emmen. While overtaking, they collided head-on with an oncoming truck.

“It’s getting close to 30 degrees in this house,” says a resident of the tax flat in Emmen. They have been living there since February, but with the sun on the windows it gets very hot. Fans do not help, no air conditioners may be installed and closing the curtains is also pointless. The landlord of the flat says he is investigating the heat.
