The week of Drenthe: 100,000 euros for food banks and 200,000 broilers culled

2, 8, 100,000 and 200,000. Four numbers that were in the Drenthe news last week. And another figure was questioned.

2: A second boat will arrive in Meppel for the reception of refugees. A second boat will be added for a period of three to six months to provide shelter for 110 people, in order to relieve the application center in Ter Apel. There is already a boat where just under 100 asylum seekers are received.

8: Eight catering entrepreneurs brought a case against the government in the court in The Hague. It is a lawsuit that the Koninklijke Horeca Nederland has filed because it is not satisfied with the state of affairs surrounding the payment of the corona support. One of those eight entrepreneurs are Hendrik-Jan Lip and Henriëtte Waaijenberg from Hoogeveen, owners of restaurant Narline in Zuidwolde.

100,000: Food banks in Drenthe will receive 100,000 euros from the province. The province wants to support them now that more and more people are using it and the food banks themselves are finding it increasingly difficult to cover the costs. The food banks are happy with the money.

200,000: Bird flu was diagnosed at a poultry farmer near Nieuw-Weerdinge. That is why more than 200,000 broilers have been culled. That is the most number of animals that had to be culled for bird flu in the current bird flu season, since October last year.

In addition, there was also a figure in the news that is mistrusted. GroenLinks and the Party for the Animals in Drenthe want a temporary hunting ban for hares, rabbits and ducks. The parties do not trust the wildlife count figures on which the fauna management plan is based.
