Emma Kimiläinen the short-term plans do not change, even though the driving works ended prematurely.

Iltalehti reached Kimiläinen from Heathrow airport. The formula star is on his way to Boston, where he will appear at the headquarters of his partner Puma on PR duties. Later, the trip to America continues to Austin, where the next round of the F1 series will be contested.

According to the original plan, Kimiläinen was also supposed to compete on the track on the same weekend. However, the legend of the W Series, an ancillary class of the F1 series, came to a premature end when the women’s formula series had to call it quits for this season due to financial difficulties.

The money for the third-season running series ran out. The previous race in Singapore was still able to get through, but after that the leading step of the series had to put their hands up.

The news published on Monday about the cancellation of the rest of the season did not come as a big shock to Kimiläinen.

– We drivers were kept brutally honest all the time on the map as to where we were going. I had time to digest this decision for some time, Kimiläinen commented.

In the end, the W Series season 2022 was brought down by the failed cooperation agreement.

– The series had negotiated a significant cooperation agreement with an investor. The names were already on the paper, but there was no money, Kimiläinen reveals.

Kimiläinen, one of the top drivers in the series, is confident that this is not the end of the series.

– Even if one negotiation failed, it spawned new contacts and potential investors. There are many people who want to save the W Series and invest in women’s sports, says Kimiläinen.

The W Series is a special series in that it costs drivers nothing to participate.

In previous seasons, the series has offered all drivers racing equipment for free. In addition, it has covered the travel and accommodation expenses of all drivers.

In addition, the series has paid each driver prize money according to the final position in the standings. For example Jamie Chadwick has pocketed half a million dollars from his championships.

Kimiläinen earned $90,000 for the 2019 season and $125,000 for the 2021 season.

According to Kimiläinen, the prize money system will not be changed.

– We want to stick to that. With financial support, we want to professionalize women’s sports in such a way that we get paid for driving. It is a really important value for the owners of the series, Kimiläinen describes.

In the missed 2022 season, Kimiläinen finished eighth in the series. That should net him $60,000 in prize money.

The money hasn’t been heard yet.

– The payment schedule has not yet been discussed. The organizers believe they will be able to pay everyone by the end of the year, says Kimiläinen.

Kimiläinen says he received the prize money from previous seasons.
