“I just put the geese in the pen,” says René Perdok of Bikers 4 Animals Groningen cheerfully. Then seriously: “What a sad story. We are no longer afraid of anything, but we are very surprised about this. Extremely sad.”
It concerns the geese that were transported by the animal ambulance on Saturday, after a publication of city blog Sikkom , were freed from a student house. The students, all members of Vindicat, had bought the geese from a farmer a few days before.
Swimming pool
According to Perdok, the geese mainly need rest. And some space to be goose again. “We still had a nice big night cage available. They are now in it with fresh straw and hay. Tomorrow I will prepare a swimming pool and they can leave the pen.”
To prevent them from flying away, the animal lover has clipped their wings. “Their feathers were broken. When they fly off and land in a pond, they are sucked full of water and drown.”
Bart and Leonie
For now, Perdok is keeping the tame geese under his wing. “They need to recover and relax. When they can fly again and have strengthened, I want to place them with a beautiful old farm or a deposit in consultation. So that they have company and are looked after. They cannot survive in the wild.”
Until then, they’ve got it Bikers 4 Animals Grunn a beautiful life. Perdok runs the foundation in and around his house in Borgsweer, where he takes care of neglected animals. “We now have about thirty guinea pigs, ten rabbits, two goats, chickens, pigeons, parrots, six dogs, a few cats and now two geese. By the way, we just gave them names: Bart and Leonie. Named after the employees of the animal ambulance.”
Although the foundation is called Bikers 4 Animals, the bike went out a few years ago. “I auctioned it because I knew there was a lot of interest in it. A man from Belgium said he would outbid any bid anyway. We made beautiful rabbit hutches from the sum of money generated by the motor.”
