The state assassin played by Don Denzel returns -perhaps for the last time-, transformed into a great action star thanks to this series. If what he is looking for is the cinematic pleasure of scenes of violencethis film is perfect: not only because the choreography and movements are recorded with enormous precision, but because Washington makes his righteous killing machine a complete human being.
He has matured since the first installment, and here he does the work for himself: saving his paradise in southern Italy from the mafia. As an inverted horror moviethe monster this time goes after the bad guys and fulfills (if not, dignifies) what is nothing more than a premise to create movements.
In the end, it is nothing more than a superhero movie or, to put it better, the type of films that allow us to understand what tradition (the implacable and infallible vigilante) the myth of men in long underwear is built.
Washington has a great virtue as an actor: he understands his creature. That has always been his talent, as much as Malcolm X or as this Robert who always leaves a small space for regret. There is a world behind the character, says Washington, and that provides a depth and interest that the film would not otherwise have.
