the vice president and 13 national secretaries resign

The rupture is consummated in the ANC. The nine hours of meeting this Saturday have not served to bring positions between critics and leadership closer, nor to redirect the crisis that began at the end of January due to the decision to present an electoral candidacy outside the pro-independence parties. Up to 13 members of the national secretariat have resigned, as EL PERIÓDICO advanced that they had planned. The hitherto vice-president, Jordi Pesarrodona, one of the critical voices, has left his position but will remain within the secretariat. The other 13 members will remain as base members.

In a statement, the management assures that during the meeting they have tried to “bring closer positions and redirect differences” and that a resolution proposal has even been voted in which they promised to “improve relations and the internal functioning of the national secretariat.” The text would have received the support of 40 members, compared to eight votes against and eight blanks. However, the proposal has not prevented leaks.

The origin of the conflict

The critics’ complaints do not have so much to do with the idea of creating what is known as the ‘civic list’, but rather with how the president is defending herself, Dolors Feliu, whom they accuse of trying to impose their own plan. The tension soared at the meeting on January 28, after Feliu’s proposal to launch a working group to draw up the list was clamorously overthrown. It did not even reach a simple majority, when two thirds of favorable votes were needed.

The situation led critics, around twenty at first, to create the Indesinenter collective. In their first statement they accused the leadership – made up of 12 members, of which 10 are close to the president – of “authoritarianism” and “abuse of power.” Therefore, they demanded a remodeling of this body to redirect the situation. This Friday those close to the president made a first move. Uriel Bertran announced his resignation to replace the until today vice president of the entity, Jordi Pesarrodona, in the second year of his mandate, which was to begin in three months. Bertran is close to Feliu, while Pesarrodona is one of the critics. However, the attempt was in vain.

Can the ANC run in the elections?

By statute, the Assemblea cannot compete directly in the elections but it can promote, promote or foster certain options. This is what he did, for example, when PDECat and ERC forged the Junts pel Sí list. Critics consider that making a decision of this caliber must be highly debated and agreed upon. The management, for its part, recalls that the promotion of this civic list was included in the entity’s roadmap by the partners via amendments and was approved by 96% of the full members in May 2022.
