The very first hotel in Zoetermeer opened on this day

On Wednesday September 5, 1979, the growth city of Zoetermeer received its very first hotel: City Hotel Zoetermeer. The building is still used as a hotel today.

We all know the Golden Tulip hotel on the Children of Versteegplein in the Driemanspolder district. It stands along the A12, opposite the Mandela Bridge. This building was built more than forty years ago with sixty rooms, three conference rooms, a restaurant and a bar.

Cozy table lamps and an old-fashioned telephone

Old photos show neat hotel rooms with cozy table lamps, heavy curtains, dark carpet and an old-fashioned telephone on the bedside table. The building was next to Hopman’s office and near the pedestrian bridge to the Driemanspolder sprinter station.

City Hotel Zoetermeer changed its name three times over the years. You may remember the Baron Hotel or later the Best Western Hotel. Ultimately, Golden Tulip became the new owner, and the hotel is still called that today. Today the rooms, the restaurant, the lobby and the halls are modernly furnished, adapted to this time.
