The verbal incontinence of old glories and the TV audience

ORere some time ago, this column reported with some disappointment the phenomenon of the old glories of the show who lent themselves on television, and not only, to interpret the caricature of themselvesobjectively with considerable success.

At the time, an important character, who has been working alongside these yesteryear stars for years, called me to thank me for the observation, in which he fully recognized himself.

Having for a long time accompanied and valued the success of many homegrown divas, he too regretted how the desire to appear almost led them to ridicule themselves, just to be there. Where was their style? Where, the elegant veil of confidentiality that should envelop the myths?

We took our leave with a sigh. Since then, always thanks to social media, the situation has gotten out of control, going further. But the reflection that inspires me now is another: old age was and still is a taboo in a country like oursin which the cult of beauty forces women over fifty to tear their faces apart or to disappear, or perhaps both.

But there is something about old age that captivates and convinces the general Italian publicin turn widely seasoned: the possibility of the elderly to have their say without brakes.

Television grandparents over the top

And so VAT Zanicchi is invited and incited to recite “dirty” jokes, Orietta Bertia recycled columnist, can pull the competitors of a reality show without limits and Gino Paoli ends up telling the immense audience of the Sanremo Festival the escapades of a colleague, of which he was the custodian.
And everyone down to laugh, when there is any, or to agree with the white-haired bludgeoner on duty. Old age as a shield.

A very sad sight because the verbal incontinence of the old glories adds to the already shameful spectacle of insults and vulgarities of which TVs and platforms are quite full.

I’ll be nostalgic, but to these television grandparents, so over the top, I preferred the wise and composed, perhaps boring onesbut so effective in teaching the new generations good taste and a sense of limits.
