The vast majority of retailers complain about delivery problems and loss of sales

The majority of textile, shoe and leather goods retailers in Germany are currently suffering from delivery delays and failures. As a current survey by the BTE trade association has shown, only five percent of the participating companies are currently reporting no or only minimal problems.

Accordingly, 37 percent of the retailers surveyed are missing goods in the single-digit percentage range, and just as many complain about delivery problems with ten to 20 percent of the goods. 21 percent of those surveyed are waiting for more than 20 percent of the spring/summer goods that were either delivered late or not at all.

“The consequences are sometimes painful sales losses,” said the BTE in a press release. A third of the survey participants estimate the shortfall at ten to 20 percent, with five percent even missing more than 20 percent in the till. 43 percent of textile and fashion retailers estimate that they have lost income in the single-digit percentage range. Only 18 percent of those surveyed have no or only minimal losses.

Overall, there is little hope that the sales losses will be made up for in the current season. 22 percent of the survey participants see no opportunities here, at least one third believes that up to half of the sales that have not been made can be made up for. Few retailers are confident of being able to make up much (say 12 percent) or even all (say 17 percent) of lost sales. Another 17 percent cannot currently answer this question.

At the same time, all retailers expect more or less high price increases for the upcoming autumn/winter goods. 48 percent are assuming single-digit percentage price increases, and 50 percent of retailers expect price increases to be between 10 and 20 percent. Two percent of the participants even estimate that the average price increase for autumn/winter goods is more than 20 percent.
