The Valencian tragedy, by Joan Tardà

Not pass? It’s been! With 300,000 votes and 12.4%, the extreme right will be present in the Government of the Generalitat of the Valencian Country. The PP does not usually have hobbies when choosing partners and Carlos Mazon He only needed a meeting to agree and close a coalition government with the extreme right. Two hours of meeting with a representation of Vox, in which those of Abascal attended a man convicted of gender violence, a bullfighter and Gil Lázaroa person from the Falangist world, 32 years old PP deputy, member of the Congress table and, as a young man, protagonist of riots related to the desire to prevent the removal of the equestrian statue of Franco from the Plaza del Ayuntamiento de València.

In the manner of a tragic farce, the natural pact of 1995 between the PP and González Lizondo’s Unió Valenciana, which placed Eduardo Zaplana on the altar of the presidency of the Generalitat, has been repeated almost three decades later. The tongue and groove fit perfectly thanks to a shared Francoism and little concealed among the victors of the so-called “battle of Valencia”, which began in the years immediately after the Transition. Since then, against the Valencians everything has been valid: violence in the streets, bombs in bookstores, an attempt to kill Joan Fuster, the murder of Guillem Agulló and, not so long ago (2007!), a bomb at the headquarters of the Esquerra Republicana del País Valencia, in the city of Valencia. And a second division statute.

A behavior that He also found allies in influential sectors of the PSOE. It is good to remember that, already in 1976, Alfonso Guerra He affirmed -referring to the possible Valencian autonomy- that of «No more troubles of this kind… With a Catalonia we have plenty…». With one goal: prevent the Valencian Social Democracy and Catalanism they could lead a Mediterranean economic axis articulated by the Valencian Country and Catalonia that, inevitably, had to involve a cultural reunion and perhaps, who knows!, also a national one.

The Valencian bourgeoisie, nationally Castilianized and anchored in folklorismtherefore, the privileges acquired in the years of dictatorship were at risk and lose the great business opportunities offered by being the backyard of 21st century Madrid. It is as certain as it is unquestionable that the Valencian Country has historically been the test bed for the most Jacobin Spanishism, viscerally anti-Catalan and extractive of the wealth produced by the Valencian citizens.

From here the hopes deposited in the Valencianism of Ximo Puig and Mónica Oltra. “Small & rdquor ;, being excessively ‘soft’, according to what my friends from the south said. In any case, policies fearful enough to have provoked the defection of 120,000 progressive voters. In effect, the Botánico’s initiatives did not intend to win the cultural battle in a Valencian Country that had just come off the long night of 20 years of corrupt government of the PP (too often we forget, from the complacent vantage point of the Catalan oasis, that these two decades coincided in the time with the Convergence of 3%).

The fact is that the Valencian Government did not recover TV3 broadcasts, did not pass the Valencian language requirement -our Catalan- for the public administration and practically did not dare to use the name of País Valencià in public. In fact, a director of Compromís, Vicent Marzà, will go down in history for the ignominy of having eliminated the option, for Valencian fathers and mothers, of schooling their children in ‘línia en valencià’ (which is what the option was called of linguistic immersion in Catalan in the Valencian Country). From here on, the Ministry of Culture will pass into the hands of Vox, and that of education to someone who, I am sure, will not use Catalan in any of his public interventions.

And in Madrid, once again, they did not understand that they were risking everything in turning progressive Valencianism into one of the levers of his project. The proof is the loneliness of Ximo Puig (in addition to Joan Baldovíwho has acted too often as its spokesman in Congress) in the denunciation, always made with an exhausting moderation in forms and contents, of the enormous fiscal plunder suffered by the Valencian Country, only surpassed by the Balearic Islands and superior to that of Catalonia. A wall of misunderstandings that have not allowed him to present any trick.

Clear demonstration of the failure of a Spain that calls itself modern and inclusive, but that hides the submission of an entire people, from La Sènia to Oriola, the language from which it has already left a station called ‘Herida’ to reach another called ‘Dead’ by the hand of PP and Vox.

And everything, as the imposed anthem says, to ‘offer noves glòries to Spain’.
