The Generalitat Valenciana has summoned for next Monday, the 29th, and in an extraordinary way, the Consultative Commission of Traditional Bullfighting Celebrations (Bous al Carrer) to “address the current situation and propose recommendations to the festive commissions for him increase in incidents this summer”.
In the current season of popular celebrations there have already been seven fatalities – the last one a 73-year-old French woman this Thursday in Beniarbeig -, the highest figure since 2015, when the same deaths were recorded throughout the season.
In addition to the deadly catches, there have been several incidents with minors who have participated in these festivities despite being prohibited, or who have even been seriously injured.
The first fatality of this 2022 in this type of bullfighting celebrations was a 64-year-old man, of French nationality, who died after nine days admitted in the Denia Hospital after being caught the night of July 8 to 9 during the running of the bulls in Pedreguer (Alicante).
Few days later, on July 12, another man, a resident of Albacete, died in the ‘bous al carrer’ of Picassent (Valencia); and one more, this neighbor of Meliana, He also died from a serious bullfight in the bullfights of this Valencian town.
