The University Museum Groningen has received a special first edition of a booklet by Aletta Jacobs from 1898. A family is giving it away as a gift

This is super special, says museum director Arjen Dijkstra. “It is the very first book in which Aletta Jacobs explains how the female body works,” he explains. “For the widest possible audience.” Sketches and pop-up pictures give the reader an impression of the woman’s anatomy. Aletta Jacobs (Sappemeer, 1854) was the first female student to be officially admitted to a Dutch university. Following on from this, she also became the first female doctor in the Netherlands.
