The United States will respond to Russia’s actions not only in the event of a full-scale “invasion” of Ukraine, but even if the situation in the Donbass is at a “low or medium boiling point”, declared Secretary of State Anthony Blinken in an interview with CBS.
Host Margaret Brennan asked what Washington would do if Russia did not attack Ukraine, but kept the situation at a “low boiling point”, for example by launching cyberattacks.
“This is unacceptable and is one of the things we spoke at length with allies and partners this weekend. This is a scenario in which Russia simply keeps the situation at a low or medium boiling point. And there will also be an answer to this, ”Blinken explained.
Blinken rejected the possibility of recognizing Crimea as Russian to avoid war
At the same time, he stressed that in relation to the current crisis, his job as a diplomat is to use all the possibilities to prevent war. “And if I can do something about it, I will,” the Secretary of State said. He added that as long as Washington does not know that “tanks are moving, planes are flying and aggression has begun on a full scale,” he will do everything to prevent this.
