The candidate of Catalan Alliance, Silvia Orriolshas been elected new mayor of Ripollafter a sanitary cordon of Junts, PSC, ERC and the CUP has not prospered to prevent the investment of the leader of the formation of extreme right and independentist, winner in the elections of May 28. Negotiations to form a pact that would oust Orriols broke down this Friday, after the PSC, ERC and the CUP – which sealed an agreement outside of the post-convergents – accused Junts of demanding the Mayor’s Office veto the cuperos.
The suspense has stretched to the same vote of investiture, to which the opponents of Aliança Catalana have reached without a sealed agreement. The Junts candidate, Manoli Vega, and the ERC candidate, Chantal Pérez, have maintained their respective candidacies. Thus, the disagreement between Junts, PSC, ERC and the CUP to accumulate their votes in the same candidate has led Orriols to take the leadership rod.
Motion of censure
After the plenary session, the executive de Junts has accused socialists, republicans and anti-capitalists of putting “party interests” first and moving for “sectarianism” and with “political myopia”. The post-convergents have assured that they had agreed that their ‘number one’, Manoli Vega, will head a municipal executive that would integrate Junts, PSC and ERC, without the CUP.
