The Autonomous University of Barcelona (UAB) has suspended one year and two months of work and salary to a professor at the Faculty of Philosophy for “abuse of authority” in his position, sources from the university explained to Europa Press this Thursday.
According to the newspaper ‘Ara’, the decision comes after a complaint from a doctoral student, and the professor has been suspended for a very serious lack of prevalence of the status of public employee and for two serious violations of abuse of authority.
UAB sources have confirmed that this resolution occurs after the activation of the Protocol against sexist violence in 2022, which begins when an incidence of sexist, sexual or other types of violence is reported by a member of the university community.
Penalty from March 20
In a statement from the university to its students, it is explained that this professor has an open disciplinary file, which has been resolved with a one-year sanction and two-month suspension from duties for “taking precedence over his status as a public employee to obtain a undue benefit and abuse of authority in the exercise of a position”. Likewise, in this statement the university ensures that “the suspension of duties affects both work and the entire salary”.

The UAB has pointed out in this letter that the resolution was notified to the professor on February 17, that he can file an appeal for reversal until March 17, and that the sanction will be effective and will be executed as of Monday, March 20.
This case arises two days after the UAB decided to temporarily remove a professor from the Faculty of Sciences after a sentence that sentenced his doctoral student for sexual harassment for two years.
