The tragic story of Fito Páez’s mother and grandmother

He was eight months old when he lived, without being aware, the death of his mother, the pianist Margarita Zulema Avalosdue to liver cancer. He grew up with his father and his grandmother, Belia Zulema Ramirez, who discovered the musical world. Also her great aunt Josefa Paez It was a fundamental pillar in his childhood.

In the mid-1980s, twelve months after the death of his father and with a nascent musical career appreciated by the public and the music industry, another tragic event occurred that would mark his life forever. His grandmother and his great-aunt were killed along with his housekeeper, who was pregnant at the time. The perpetrator of the massacre was Walter DiGusti, with the complicity of his younger brother Carlos DiGiustia former classmate of Fito Páez’s studies in adolescence, who began a career in the local police when he was an adult.

The artist acknowledges that at that moment everything stopped making sense, since his family had been killed, the people he had loved the most. The motives for the crimes are still a mystery.
