The Toten Hosen rewrite the song “Wort zum Sonntag”.

It wasn’t until he was 60 that he wanted to tell “what used to be”, sings Tote-Hosen frontman Campino in the band’s classic “Wort zum Sonntag”. But shortly before his 60th birthday on June 22nd, the singer – real name Andreas Frege – doesn’t want to know much about it anymore.

On the occasion of their 40th anniversary in April, the Düsseldorf punk rock band rewrote their song. Now the corresponding line reads: “I’m not yet 70, and I’m not close either. And only then will I tell you what used to be.” The Toten Hosen announced on Monday that it was a new recording in the “70 is the new 60, you lollipops!” mix.

“40 years is a long time and we are just grateful for everything we were able to experience and sometimes survive,” the statement said. “On this day we think of everyone who has accompanied us on this path, especially those who can no longer be with us today, and of you!”

There is no song more appropriate to celebrate this than “Wort zum Sonntag”, which is considered the “creed” of the trousers like no other. The band also released a video of the newly recorded song, accompanied by numerous recordings of the band’s history.

Die Toten Hosen had their debut performance on April 10, 1982 at Bremen’s “Schlachthof” – since the exact date of the first rehearsal is no longer known, they celebrate this date as the band’s birthday. To mark the anniversary, an album with 43 songs will be released on May 27, seven of which will be new songs.

From June 10th there will be a tour with the fans to celebrate. The city that Düsseldorf punk rockers like to crack their jokes about is the city that kicks things off: Cologne.
