Basketball national coach Gordon Herbert has shelved the plan for a second job for the time being.
“I no longer have any ambition to train another team. My full focus is now on the DBB team and the Olympics,” said the 64-year-old national coach to the “German Press Agency” in Munich.
World champion maker Herbert was recently courted by the French Euroleague club Asvel Lyon-Villeurbanne. But the German Basketball Federation (DBB) spoke out against a deal. Herbert himself would have liked to take on both positions.
Will the DBB boys get a medal at the Olympics?
“To do this, I wanted the support of the DBB. I didn’t want to do it without that. I’m absolutely green with it. My focus is on the DBB. I love the job, I love the players I work with. We “We’re going into an Olympic year and I don’t want any conflicts,” said Herbert.
His team, led by captain Dennis Schröder, is considered one of the medal contenders at the Olympic tournament (July 27 to August 11) in Paris and Lille.
While his professionals in North America and Europe are being challenged again in everyday life, the national coach is currently accepting a number of honors. “It’s great that we’re being noticed after this World Cup title. I don’t know exactly what’s to come. There’s still a lot happening. I’m trying to stay with the whole thing a lot and otherwise carry on working normally,” said Herbert.
The basketball players are considered the top favorites in the “Team of the Year” category at the “Sportsman of the Year” gala on December 17th.
