The scene is fierce. Surrounded by corpses of Russian soldiers, Yevgeny Prigozhin – round head, wrathful expression – bellows at the camera: “These, fuck!, are someone’s fucking parents and children. And that scum that doesn’t give us the ammunition, damn bitch!, will eat their remains in hell. Fuck! fagots! We have a 70% ammo shortage. Shoigu, Gerasimov, where the hell is the ammunition? & rdquor ;. The outrages towards the Defense Minister and the Chief of the General Staff of the Russian Army continuen: “They sit in expensive clubs, their children stumble through life making videos on YouTube. You believe that you are the owners and that you have the right to dispose of their lives!”
It is not the first time that the Russian oligarch calls for more troops for the offensive in Ukraine. But this time, the bravado is a real blow to the Russian army. Prigozhin, the man who spent nine years in prison, who upon his release opened a hot dog stand, then a fancy restaurant, and who his friendship with Putin made it easier for him to win substantial contracts with the State, has extended its power beyond the Russian borders. The US Attorney’s Office considers that his ‘troll’ factory intervened in the elections that gave Trump victory. His Wagner company of mercenaries not only operates in the Ukraine, but also in Africa and the Middle East, where he, of course, also has economic interests.

look at the boardAnd Putin? What does the Russian leader think of the split between Wagner and the official army? The terrain is open to speculation. Some believe that Prigozhin threatens Putin himself. Others say that his influence is waning. In this case, where will the challenge end? There may be an accident, of course. A bomb. A car that fails… Or a poison. The Kremlin has a long tradition of toxic potions.. From that first secret toxicological laboratory created in 1921 and personally supervised by Lenin, to the great Laboratory Number 1 of the NKVD founded by Stalin and a significant part of the cold war, to the poisoning of the opponent Alekséi Navalni in 2020. Russia has ceased to be the country of Soviets, but not of poisons.
But maybe Putin keeps looking at the board. Celebrating the competition between troops. Encouraging a counterpower without any strings attached. A voice that rises angrily among corpses, an enraged look that spreads throughout the world. More than 14 months since the invasion of Ukraine and much of the theater of war is still happening behind the scenes. The only thing irredeemably real is the spilled blood.
