In the latest Paramount Top Gun: Maverick The film shows the flag of Taiwan. Among other things, they talk about it CNN and The Guardian.

The trailer for the film, released in 2019, already caused a small uproar that joined the actor Tom Cruisen iconic pilot jacket. Namely, based on the trailer, the film seemed to lack the flags of Taiwan and Japan, which were still visible in the back of the jacket in 1986.

Based on the trailer for the film, the flags of the countries had been replaced with symbols of the same color, the meaning of which, however, remained obscure.

The lack of tickets on the back of the jacket already gave birth to the theory that the change would have been made to the liking of China. The theory was based on the fact that the Chinese giant Tencent has been one of Paramount’s partners in the latest Top Gun.

Now, however, the company has withdrawn. CNN reported, according to The Wall Street Journal, that Tencent had withdrawn funding for the latest film as early as late 2019, citing geopolitical concerns between China and the United States.

Tencent and Paramount have not responded to requests from The Wall Street Journal to comment, CNN reported.

According to The Guardian, it is expected that the latest Top Gun film will not be released at all in China.

The relationship between China and Taiwan has long been very tense.

China considers Taiwan a part of it and has asked the governments of several countries to treat Taiwan as its territory. In practice, Taiwan has been independent since 1949, although only a few states have recognized its independence.
