Swedish sprinter Moa Hjelmer had to listen to rude comments in a clothing store while she was shopping with a friend. In his Instagram update, Hjelmer writes about an incident in which a tailor had made degrading comments about his friend’s body.

Hjelmer’s friend was fitting a dress when the tailor had stretched the fabric of the dress so that it had become wrinkled. In the tailor’s opinion, the dress had to be worn in, so to speak. Hjelmer pointed out that the dress didn’t look good when stretched, after which the tailor let out a nasty comment.

– He said that my friend had fat and lard in the wrong places, so he had to stretch the fabric, Hjelmer says in an Instagram update.

The comment made Hjelmer furious. She said that there is nothing wrong with her friend’s body and that the dress fit her well. The tailor was not startled by Hjelmer’s comment but continued on the same line.

– When the tailor started talking about only eating half an apple and drinking water, I had enough. I shoved a bag of coffee buns under his nose and said, “No, we’re eating buns!”

Messenger of body positivity

The sprinter himself has faced criticism for his body. Hjelmer is a mother of two children and has said that her body has not returned to its former state after giving birth.

In 2019, Hjelmer published an update on Instagram in which he says that he is proud of his stomach. After this, the sprinter has acted as a messenger of body positivity.

– I don’t look like a typical female athlete with tight abs. I look like a bloated guy in similar pants. It’s enough for me to look like this when I’m better than others. Results are more important than what it looks like, Hjelmer commented in 2019.

The publication, in which Hjelmer told about the scene at the tailor, includes a video in which he presents his body from a close range. The sprinter says he tries to inspire others with his video.

– With this story and my video, I want to encourage you to dress the way you want, regardless of where the fat is, Hjelmer writes in his update.
