The sweetest village in North Holland: Bovenkarspel transformed into KandyKarspel

Bacon, candy canes and piñatas walked through the streets of the West Frisian Bovenkarspel today, to celebrate the annual fair together. On Easter Monday, the villagers traditionally dress up in the theme that the fair committee comes up with. This year: ‘KandyKarspel’.

The fair started last Friday and according to the West Frisian visitors, the atmosphere is good. “The beers taste great again! It’s always great here.” And that is the case every year, tell two women in a row. They have been coming to the fair for 38 years.

“It was really spoon-fed to us. This morning at half past nine we ate a fried egg and at 10 a.m. we went to prepare ourselves with friends to party afterwards. At the fair you see all acquaintances. It’s like a reunion.” says one. “You notice the solidarity and fun with each other, that’s it,” says the other.

The Fair Committee exists this year twenty years. “That’s why we went extra this time,” says chairman of the fair committee Joey Leeuwinga, who is dressed as Oompa Loempa. “We have a swingo. That’s bingo, but then you have to cross off songs instead of numbers. Singer Alex will also perform.”

The fair can be visited until Tuesday 11 April.
