Coach of the Swedish cross country team Lars Öberg cheered his teammates on in Saturday’s sprint so vigorously that he went to the side of the track and crashed To Rosie Brennan.
The Yankee skier lost his rhythm and fell outside the top ropes.
Öberg was fined 3,500 kroner, or about 310 euros, for his mistake. In addition, the International Ski Federation FIS took away the man’s accreditation for Sunday’s race, so he will not be seen on the track in Östersund today.
– It was unfortunate and I have to take responsibility for it. I’m mostly angry with myself because I went too close to the track, Öberg stated for Aftonbladet.
In Östersund, the 10-kilometer intermediate start race will be skied in freestyle on Sunday. The men’s race starts at 11:15 and the women’s at 13:45.
