THETHE SOL OF THE FUTURE
Type: comedy ✦✦✦ 1/2
By and with Nanni Moretti. With Margherita Buy, Silvio Orlando, Barbora Bobulova
In a popular district of Rome, the Budavari circus sets up its tent. It’s 1956 and in Hungary, where the acrobats come from, Soviet tanks are stifling freedom.
In Italy, the head of the Gramsci section and editor of the Unit Silvio Orlando embraces orthodoxy. His wife, Barbora Bobulova, is with the dissidents.
It’s the movie within a movieand it’s a difficult work for the director to define and to make: his wife wants to leave him, the producer is in financial trouble, and he’s not feeling too well either.
Two years after Three floorsNanni Moretti returns home to talk about fidelity to ideals (“No one ever really changes in life”) and how much it costs to do the right thing. In politics (“I don’t want Stalin”), and in the cinema (“In this film there is only room for evil and you too are responsible”). Taking the greatest liberty: changing the ending of the Story.
