Anyone remember The Subways? When British indie rock got really big again in the noughties, the band from Hertfordshire also celebrated their breakthrough. Their debut YOUNG FOR ETERNITY was released on July 4th, 2005, right in the middle of the “Class Of 2005” wave. Their singles “Oh Yeah” and “Rock & Roll Queen” ran up and down in the indie discos. Since then they have released three more albums, most recently THE SUBWAYS in 2015.
In the foreseeable future, seven and a half years later, there will be more: UNCERTAIN JOYS will be their fifth album on January 13, 2023. The trio already released the lead single “You Kill My Cool”. Now the band around singer and bassist Charlotte Cooper has released another single. Listen to “Love Waiting On You” streamed here.
Billy Lunn, also lead singer of The Subways, says of the song: “‘Love Waiting On You’ is about the tension between desperately wanting to be with the person you desire and enjoying the tension of being apart. In the cramped beds on the tour bus (or in my rooms at uni), I would long for the love of my life, wait for her messages to ping my phone, hope to hear her voice on the end of the line, and want definitely feel her touch. In those moments there was a joyful pain that made seeing her again unimaginably beautiful. Still, there was something wild and ecstatic about missing her so much.”
