For centuries, after their emergence in the 18th century, museums were mainly kept collections (of animals, plants, insects) that helped to better understand the world in which we live. Museums specifically dedicated to art were also created (such as the Prado, the Louvre or the Hermitage, among others) but in recent decades the category of museum seems to have extended to another class of institutions that are more curious, rare and definitely more attractive.
As it is, today there are museums of everything we can think of, from gastronomy to magic, as well as there are museums dedicated to the history of cinema, clothing, footwear, maps and much more. It should not surprise us then to discover increasingly rare museums, of which below we are going to discover some of the most striking.
Barcelona Erotic Museum
Although it is estimated that there are seven erotic museums of international level both for their originality and for the antiquity of their heritage, without a doubt the Erotic Museum of the city of Barcelona is one of those places to visit and be surprised. Located on the famous Rambla, among its nearly 800 objects are from very ancient pieces from the Paleolithic to wooden and stone penises, including an Erotic Garden where entertainment activities are always carried out.
Visits are sometimes guided by an impersonator of a famous person (Marilyn Monroe, for example) and the place is full of frankly surprising details, such as the collection of porn videos that the Spanish king Alfonso scripted and filmed at the beginning of the 20th century. XIII.
Rocsen Museum
This strange museum is located in the town of Nono, in Córdoba, and is surprising because in the middle of a completely wild landscape it appears out of nowhere and is impressive due to its intense pink color and its front decorated with 49 sculptures of famous people linked to evolution. of Humanity. Jesus Christ appears in giant size next to Mahatma Ghandi or Martin Luther King and the striking thing is that each of these figures was created by the person who imagined and created this museum, Juan Santiago Bouchon. Defined by it as “a multifaceted museum”, in its rooms you can find everything from objects of the culture of native peoples such as the Comechingones to scenes from the life of the Creoles, giant mollusks, technological objects from the past and much more.
Ripley Museum
This is without a doubt one of the most famous, rare and visited museums in the world. Robert L. Ripley was a collector of all kinds of extravagant things (from curious sculptures to ritual objects, including shrunken heads, miniature paintings made on butterfly wings and much more) and today all that treasure is gathered in the fourteen rooms of exhibit at the Ripley Museum in Mexico. There is a wax replica of the body of the tallest man in the world and there is also the famous dress in which Marilyn Monroe sang her happy birthday to President John Fitzgerald Kennedy.
Museum of broken relationships
This museum was born with a pretty crazy goal: to be a place where people could take memories of their ended loves. The story began in 2006 and in Zagreb, Croatia, when someone had the idea to ask people to donate the objects they wanted to get rid of after a breakup. The call was a success. So much so that in 2017 the Museum of Broken Relationships became the most visited in the country. In its rooms there are letters, dolls, jewelry, rings and behind each piece there is a text that explains the story of heartbreak that brought it to the museum.
Warren Museum of Occultism
With the saga of The Conjuring, the world met Ed and Lorraine Warren (the Warren couple), a couple of psychics who in real life were in charge of solving many episodes for which neither the police nor science had an answer. From diabolical possessions to paranormal phenomena, everything that was beyond the foreseeable caused the authorities to summon the couple. This – throughout the nearly 4,000 cases that she had to solve – accumulated in her house a whole collection of “cursed” objects locked in display cases and with the warning not to touch or stare at anything. Today the Warren Museum of Occultism, located in Connecticut, has the Anabelle doll among its most notable pieces, but it is closed. However, to the delight of horror fans, it is said to open its doors next year and under a new name: the W Museum.
