Deputy Head of the State Department Sherman in talks with Ryabkov warned of new sanctions
Washington is ready to impose sanctions against key financial institutions in Russia and tighten export controls, as well as provide assistance to allies in the event of an invasion of Ukraine. This was stated by US Deputy Secretary of State Wendy Sherman at a briefing following the talks on security guarantees with representatives of Russia, the RBC correspondent reports.
She added that during her conversation with Deputy Foreign Minister Sergei Ryabkov, she made it clear that the United States was ready for tough sanctions. According to her, these measures, if applied, will be much more stringent than in 2014.
Russia, she said, must make a choice: either start de-escalation of the situation on the border with Ukraine, or face the consequences.
