The startup Knuspr now also supplies medicines in addition to food

Knuspr: The “new online grocer”

The startup Knuspr, which belongs to the Czech grocer Rohlik, has already made a name for itself as an online food delivery service since its inception. The company sees itself as a “new online food retailer” and “revolutionary player in the e-food business”. According to the startup, the business model is based on the delivery of “fresh, high-quality food” to customers’ homes within just three hours, with the range primarily including fruit and vegetables, meat and fish, as well as dairy products and baked goods. As the Deutsche Apothekerzeitung reports, Knuspr purchases its goods directly from manufacturers and farmers instead of from wholesalers and/or middlemen.

According to Gabot.de, the main difference between Knuspr and other competing online providers is that the start-up offers an exceptionally wide range of goods with 12,000 articles and 20,000 products targeted for Germany in the long term. More than 30 percent of this came from regional suppliers and farms, the proportion of organic products is around three times as high as in a traditional supermarket.

Now also pharmacy delivery service

After the success in the food market, the startup is now venturing into the healthcare sector. As reported by the Deutsche Apothekerzeitung, Knuspr is now also supplying customers with over-the-counter medicines and cosmetic products sold in pharmacies. To do this, users only have to click on the “Pharmacy” button on the company’s website, whereupon they are forwarded to the online shop of Delphin-Apotheke in Oberschleißheim near Munich. The process is explained on the website as follows: “Qualified pharmacy employees prepare the order for you and hand it over to your Knuspr messenger, who will bring the products to your home.”

According to APOTHEKE ADHOC, a spokeswoman for Knuspr emphasized that the start-up “exclusively offers the delivery service” for pharmacy items. “The delivery comes directly from the pharmacy to Knuspr and is not stored: the pharmacy items are checked directly in the Delphin pharmacy by a pharmacist and packed in a Delphin pharmacy bag, sealed and finally delivered to Knuspr. Then Knuspr delivers the entire purchase, including the pharmacy products, to your home,” said the spokeswoman.

According to the Deutsche Apothekerzeitung, the range of pharmacy articles includes products such as eye drops, dietary supplements and foot care products, sleeping pills, diabetic supplies and lice remedies. Deliveries are made to the Bavarian state capital Munich and also to the north of the metropolitan region. According to the website, delivery fees and product range depend on the respective location. A spokesman for Knuspr informed the Deutsche Apothekerzeitung that since mid-February the Rhein-Main area in and around Frankfurt has also been served from Bischofsheim in Hesse. In addition, the locations in Hamburg Essen, Cologne, Düsseldorf and Berlin are being planned. According to the spokesman, the company wants to be represented in the ten largest cities in Germany by 2024. For this purpose, Knuspr is also planning cooperations with other stationary pharmacies, and talks are currently being held with a pharmacy in the Rhine-Main area.
