The Starlings, Loredana and also Chérine: VRT announces all seven candidates participating in ‘Eurosong’ | Music

MusicAfter weeks of speculation, the time has come. On Tuesday, the VRT announced which seven candidates will participate in ‘Eurosong’, the preselections for the Eurovision Song Contest. As expected, Cherine, a diamond in the rough under the wings of Hans Francken, is already participating. In addition, Tom and Kato of The Starlings also have a chance to represent our country in the Eurovision Song Contest.

Tom Dice successfully defended our colors in 2010 with ‘Me and My Guitar’ and came in sixth place. Now he wants to repeat that brilliant performance with his wife and great love Kato Callebaut by his side. Loredana, a name that has been whispered several times in recent weeks, is also participating.

In addition to The Starlings, Cherine and Loredana, Ameerah, gala dragot, Gustaph and Hunter Falls also have a chance to represent our country at the Song Contest in Liverpool in 2023. Ameerah is the stage name of Astrid Roelants. She was discovered during the first edition of ‘Idol 2003’ and took part in the Eurosong preselections the following year. Later she moved to Los Angeles to contribute to the international music industry in glamorous Hollywood. gala dragot is the youngest artist to participate. Two years ago she won the final of ‘The Voice Kids’ and released her first single ‘Contagious’.

Gustaph scored a hit at the age of nineteen with his first single ‘Gonna Lose You’. He won the Summer Hit for best debut with it in 2000. Gustaph also has experience on the large Eurovision stage. As a backing singer, he has already traveled to the Eurovision Song Contest twice: in 2018 to Lisbon with Sennek and in 2021 to Rotterdam with Hooverphonic, where he was also the voice coach of Geike Arnaert. And then we have Hunter Falls, the stage name of Tchiah Ommar. In 2013, Hunter Falls took part in ‘The voice of Flanders’ and in 2017 he came third in the first edition of MNM Rising Star.

So in total there are seven artists. It also became a mix of established values ​​and new talents. With this, VRT breathes new life into the competition. The public broadcaster also plans to do everything in its power. “The artist must be able to perform the song perfectly and want to go for a top performance. In addition, it must be a song with which our country, and therefore also the VRT, could possibly win.

The seven artists are now known, but those who want to know which name will ultimately represent our country at the Eurovision Song Contest will have to be patient. The final winner will only be announced on 14 January, during the grand final in the Palais 12 in Brussels. Peter Van de Veire will talk the entire ‘Eurosong’ circus together. It was also the presenter himself who announced in mid-August on ‘Zomerhit’ that ‘Eurosong’ would be dusted off after a break of twelve years. A project that was tinkered with for months, but has now finally fallen into a definitive fold.
