Star player of the French national football team Wissam Ben Yedder has been sentenced to six months in prison, a Spanish newspaper Marca news.

The 32-year-old forward committed tax fraud while playing in the Spanish league in Sevilla between 2016 and 2019. He failed to declare some of his income.

Ben Yedder has already paid the missing money to the tax authorities in the past, but he was still given a prison sentence because he was considered to have evaded taxes on purpose. In addition, he will have to pay around 134,000 euros in fines.

Ben Yedder was last with the French national team in the summer of 2022, when he played in the Nations League. He was not selected for the World Cup in Qatar.

AS Monaco’s goal stick has hit 17 goals in 26 league matches this season. The previous seasons in the French league have produced 25, 20 and 18 goals.

According to the football website Transfermarkt, Ben Yedder’s market value is 20 million euros, so the 134,000 fine imposed by the authorities is hardly a heavy blow for him – unlike a prison sentence.
