Sarah Lavin lost her husband, rally star Craig Breen, in an accident. The Irishman is now racing in his loved one’s memory.
Quick beeper Sarah Lavin29, was moved to tears on Tuesday at the Paavo Nurmi Games in Turku.
In April, Lavin died in the tests of the World Rally Championship in Croatia by Craig Breen spouse. Now the Irish runner competes with Breen’s initials immortalized on his spikes.
Lavin burst into tears when asked about it.
– I love Craig deeply. I miss him every day, the runner said, wiping away tears.
– I try to run for him and everyone he loved.

In April in Croatia, Breen’s Hyundai went off the road at a bend and crashed into a wooden fence. The fence penetrated the car incredibly unluckily. The WRC star died instantly.
Breen was laid to rest later in April. Lavin did not consider missing the competitive season due to grief.
– The decision was not difficult. Craig was living his childhood dream with the world’s biggest smile on his face. This is my childhood dream.
– He always supported me so much. That’s why it’s really important that I continue to live the way he taught.

Despite the sadness, Lavin wanted to answer the media’s questions. He had a smile on his face when talking about sports.
In March, the Irishman ran his indoor 60-meter hurdles record of 7.95. The best quote for the outdoor tracks for the 100-meter hurdles is 12.86.
– I have been a full-time athlete since 2021. Everything has improved since then. I like it so much. I’m aiming for the Paris Olympics.
In Turku, Lavin ran a time of 12.87 in the heats. In the final, 12.94 brought fourth place. Reetta Hurske ran close to fifth in the final.
– My start was not as good in the final as in the heats. I was hoping to run faster. The race was really tough and even.
The main goal of the season is the World Championships in Budapest in August. Lavin also participates in the European team championships.
Despite the tragic loss, there is a smile on the face.
– I have run two 12.8 starts and a few 12.9 starts. Two months until the World Cup.
Last summer, Lavin was fifth at the European Championships in Munich.
