The 39,603 spectators who attended the only official match played to date, the League match against Cádiz, represent a decrease of almost 44,000 people compared to last year’s average in the same competition, when, according to UEFA data, the the 83,498 attendees in the 19 matches played at the Spotify Camp Nou.
One of the objectives foreseen by Joan Laporta during his second term as president was to recover the enthusiasm among members and fans, which should translate into an increase in the presence of spectators at the Estadi. The data shows that the purpose has been largely achieved. The body that governs European football states this in ‘The European Club Talentand Competition Landscape’an extensive report in which, among other parameters, the growth of audiences in European stadiums is analyzed.
Barça, in that sense, was the club that registered the best numbers among all the Leagues on the continent, with 83,498 spectators per game. Manchester United occupies second place, with 1,399,749 spectators who came to Old Trafford to enjoy the Premier League. The English are closely followed by Borussia Dortmund (1,380,875), in addition to the two Milan clubs that share the stadium (Inter, 1,379,978 and Milan, 1,364,728). The first French team to appear in the classification is Olympique de Marseille, which welcomes 62,739 fans per game to the Vélodrome and registers a total number of 1,192,045 during Ligue 1. Great numbers considering that the stadium’s capacity is of 67,000 spectators.
The Bernabéu, at half throttle
Real Madrid, for its part, is very far from these numbers (56,644 fans per game and 1,076,242 in total), although it must be taken into account that the capacity of the Madrid stadium has been reduced during the remodeling works. Despite everything, UEFA, with its report, shows that football is still very much alive among the fans. And the 22-23, with 109 million viewers in all the Leagues, is the best figure in history.
