Shawn Huff himself ran the Cooper Test record in the Army.
NBA star Lauri Markkanen ran Cooper’s test in the first week of his military service.
Evening News reported on Sunday that Markkanen’s result was more than 3,000 meters. The result was confirmed to IS by Markkanen’s physical trainer Jani Parkkinen.
Shawn Huff, the former captain of the wolf gang, laughs at the beginning of the call when he hears where the reporter is calling him from.
– Oh, how wonderful, Huff says.
Huff says that Markkanen’s result is great for a big man. He himself has run his Cooper’s test record result at approximately the same age as the 25-year-old Markkanen is currently.
Huff also ran his record in the military.
– That’s the most important thing in this whole Cooper thing, that Markkanen didn’t beat my record. I’ve run 3,200 meters myself, he hasn’t won it yet, Huff says and laughs afterwards.
The story continues after the picture.

Lots of fitness
Markkanen will complete his military service at the Santahamina sports school. He joined the service a week ago on Monday and will do it in the reconnaissance company of the Guard’s Jääkäririkmenti.
The test result of the star player of the Utah Jazz, Cooper, has interested the people quite a lot.
– I think that’s what makes Cooper so interesting, is that it’s something that we can all do in some way. It gives us some sort of yardstick to measure ourselves against top athletes when they run this. Not many can dunk over people or bounce past defenders. Almost anyone can run Cooper’s test, says Huff.
However, Huff, who has played abroad for several years during his career, points out that there are many types of fitness.
– In basketball condition, you run fast sprints and make quick changes of direction back and forth. The intensity is really high for a little while. After that there will be breaks. It’s a bit more interval type. Cooper is perhaps not the best gauge for that, but it gives some idea of the basic condition.
Huff estimates that one could expect better results in the 12-minute running test than Markkas in general from lighter backs.
– I would say that if we put Lauri in the 213-centimeter series, that more than 3,000 meters is quite elite.
Huff is one of the legends of Suomi-koris and has served as Susijeng’s captain.
Huff represented several clubs in his playing career. While playing in Finland, he played for Torpa Poj, Espoo Honga and Helsinki Seagulls.
Abroad, he represented the Italian teams Fulgor Libertas Forli, Guerino Vanoli Basket and Orlandina Basket. Huff also played in France for ESSM Le Portel and two German clubs: Riesen Ludwigsburg and Skyliners Frankfurt.
