The Spanish Hugo Ruiz wins the Best New Director award in Tribeca with ‘Una noche con Adela’

Film director Hugo Ruiz has won the Best New Director award at the Tribeca Film Festival in New York with his debut ‘Una noche con Adela’. It is a film filmed in a sequence shot that follows during a troubled night the adventures and misadventures of a street sweeper played by Laura Galán, who received a Goya for Best New Actress for her role in ‘Cerdita’. A revenge story that received excellent reviews after its screening a week ago at the festival promoted by, among others, Robert de Niro.

‘Una noche con Adela’ is the only 100% Spanish film participating this year in the prestigious New York Film Festival, and the first in history to win this competition. The jury declared when giving the award: “When we think about what makes a great director, we think about a bold and singular vision. An artist with the ability to hold a point of view, take risks and surprise us with his unique perspective. This director conjured up the ability of a magnificent conductor to conduct a symphony, delivering a highly ambitious first film that it left us all viscerally affected. Unanimously. We are excited and curious to see what they will do next”. The film will arrive on Spanish screens on December 1st.
