The unmanned Solar Orbiter spacecraft approached the sun about 30 million miles (48 million kilometers) in its elliptical orbit on Saturday. This is reported by the European Space Agency (ESA). A European space probe has never come this close to the sun. The Solar Orbiter has been traveling through the universe for over two years now.
