The Smashing Pumpkins have finished recording their new LP. Her guitarist Jeff Schroeder revealed this in an interview. Schroeder also indicated how he thinks it will sound and how it will be received: “We finished that big, epic album we were working on,” Schroeder said to moderator Anne Erickson in “Audio Ink Radio”-Podcast. So it’s supposed to be big and epic – and the third part of a trilogy that started in 1995 with their classic MELLON COLLIE AND THE INFINITE SADNESS and continued in 2000 with MACHINE/THE MACHINE OF GOD, as he already revealed. However, he could not reveal any further details.

The Smashing Pumpkins will soon start the “Rock Invasion 2” tour in North America. It is possible that they are already presenting new songs there. Schroeder didn’t reveal that either, but did say that his band is planning some “pretty exciting announcements” during the tour and throughout the year.

Hear Schroeder in conversation with Erickson here:

The current album by the Smashing Pumpkins CYR was released in 2020. ME author Arno Frank wrote about it: “CYR is the first (drum roll!) double album since MELON COLLIE and so on, but it’s just a collection of rather small rolls. Modernization that comes along as a historicization that, in turn, has long been outdated. The only thing that remains constant are the world-shattering lyrics and Corgan’s pleasantly moaning voice, but also the suspicion that his songwriting suits the baroque robe better than the skin-tight glittery costume.”
