The Smashing Pumpkins complete three-part rock opera

On Friday (May 5th) the third and final part of The Smashing Pumpkins’ new record “ATUM” was released. The new work by the US alternative rockers comprises a total of 33 tracks, the first of which was released in November last year and the second in January of this year. There are even ten more bonus tracks on the box set.

Frontman and songwriter Billy Corgan revealed in an interview with “Kerrang”that the album will take “a million different directions”. “I would say a third of that is heavy. A third is more of what we’ve been putting out lately and I don’t know what the final third would be called,” said the 56-year-old. But it would most likely go in the esoteric direction. For Corgan, the album is well balanced. He attached particular importance to this, as he said in the interview.

ATUM follows the Smashing Pumpkins’ 2020 album CYR. In addition to the singles “Beguiled” and “Spellbinding,” the band also teased the album on Billy Corgan’s Thirty-Three Podcast.

This summer, Corgan and company are joining Interpol and Stone Temple Pilots on The World is a Vampire Tour.
