The decisions taken for Russia at the meeting of the Turkish Airlines EuroLeague Commercial Assets Shareholders’ Board of Directors will seriously affect the situation of the organization this season, and will cause some teams to regain hope, especially in the Play-Offs.
Following the Commercial Assets Shareholders’ Board of Directors meeting held yesterday in Turkish Airlines EuroLeague, it was decided to impose various sanctions on the Russian teams participating in the organization. At the meeting, three Russian teams in the EuroLeague, CSKA Moscow, Zenit St. Petersburg and UNICS Kazan, their participation in the EuroLeague has been suspended. More importantly than this decision, if the situation between Russia and Ukraine does not improve, the matches played by these three teams this season will be deemed not played. If the EuroeLague management accepts that the matches played by these three teams will be considered unplayed in the future, the ranking in the organization will automatically change. This situation may cause the teams to participate in the play-offs to change.
FENERBAHÇE 1, ANADOLU EFES 4 RANKS WILL BE RISED
At the end of the matches played so far in Turkish Airlines EuroLeague, Anadolu Efes is 9th with 13 wins and 12 losses; Fenerbahçe Beko is in the 10th place with 12 wins and 12 losses. If the matches played with Russian teams are not considered valid, Anadolu Efes will be promoted to 5th place in the current table. Because Efes has played all 6 matches that it could potentially play against Russian teams, and they won 2 wins and lost 4 in these matches. In this case, 11 wins will turn into 8 losses, and Efes will find itself in the 5th place in the current ranking.
For Fenerbahçe Beko, the situation is a little different. The yellow-dark blue team has played 3 of the 6 matches it can play with the Russian teams so far and has won all of these matches. In this case, Fenerbahçe, whose 3 victories will be deleted, will regress to 9 victories and 12 losses, but since 3 Russian teams are above the ranking, in case they are eliminated, it will rise from the 10th to the 9th place. The negative situation for the yellow-dark blue team is that they will play 2 of their remaining 3 matches with the Russian teams at home.
