Saku-Petteri Perintö made a 12-minute comparison video of his and Pete Eklund’s documentaries for the trial.

Michael Monroe filed a lawsuit against the Love U Mean It production company in the district court of Helsinki. The dispute was discussed over two days this week.

The dispute between Monroe and the production company concerns a biographical documentary about Monroe published by the production company. In Monroe’s opinion, the documentary was published in 2021 on the Elisa Viihde streaming service without permission. The documentary was removed from the service just a few days after publication. CEO of the production company Saku-Petteri Perintö said in court that Monroe “pressured” the removal of the documentary.

Two documentaries have been released about Monroe during her career: a documentary by Perinnö production company and a documentary by director Pete Eklund. Eklund’s documentary premiered in September 2023.

In court, Perintö brought up the similarities between his and Eklund’s documents several times. He believes that Eklund would have copied his documentary and its flow into his own documentary, which was published later. According to heritage, the documentaries have deliberately used the same images, music, interviewees and editing methods.

A 12-minute long “comparison video” compiled by Saku-Petteri Perinnö was shown in court. In the video, Perintö compares the documentaries made by him and Pete Eklund.
