Rot-Weiß Oberhausen lost the test match against VfL Bochum 2:3, yet the team, managed by Sebastian Gunkel, showcased commendable performance.

An Explosive Start

The match started with intensity from the Kleeblätter, who had their first chance within seconds. Following a successful ball recovery, Cankoray Mutlu launched a powerful shot from about 20 meters but failed to hit the target.

Outstanding Defensive Plays

In the third minute, Oberhausen’s keeper, Kevin Kratzsch, illustrated his capabilities. VfL’s Philipp Hofmann maneuvered through the defense and took a shot from the edge of the box. Kratzsch was quick to react, saving the shot with his foot.

VfL Bochum Takes the Lead

Just two minutes later, Bochum took the lead for the first time. Hofmann, capitalizing on a rebound, efficiently slotted the ball into the lower left corner, showcasing his finishing skills.

Schlax’s Brilliant Equalizer

Lucas Halangk almost equalized for Oberhausen in the 11th minute but was thwarted by a last-second block. However, in the 16th minute, Luca Schlax wowed the spectators with a stunning strike from 18 meters, curling the ball past Bochum’s goalie, Timo Horn, to level the score.

Momentum Shifts

Following Schlax’s goal, he attempted to send Nyuydine through the Bochum defense with a well-placed pass, but the referee called an offside. In a swift counterattack, a cross from Babis Drakas found Hofmann’s head at the far post, restoring Bochum’s lead at halftime with a score of 2:1.

Strategic Half-Time Changes

The second half commenced with significant changes, as Oberhausen made five substitutions and Bochum made eleven. Kratzsch continued to shine, making another crucial save against Gerrit Holtkamp from close range, followed by an excellent stop from a long-range shot by Hofmann.

In the 57th minute, Halangk netted the equalizer after receiving a beautiful pass from Schlax within the box. Bochum’s keeper Hugo Rölleke managed to touch the ball but couldn’t prevent it from crossing the line.

Aurel Wagbe put Bochum back in front in the 68th minute, scoring from a corner taken by Berkan Taz. Shortly after, the Kleeblätter were fortunate as Wagbe hit the post with another attempt.

As the game neared its conclusion, Oberhausen’s defense remained resolute. In the 84th minute, Samuele Carella had a golden chance to equalize again but was denied by a magnificent save from Bochum’s Rölleke.

The final whistle blew with the score at 3:2 in favor of Bochum. Despite the close defeat, the Kleeblätter exhibited a remarkable and committed performance that leaves fans excited for the upcoming season.
