With daily tasks evolving rapidly, possessing a “complete skillset” is no longer paramount. Anne Tse, CEO for the Asia-Pacific region at PepsiCo, emphasized that today’s employees must have a strong capacity for learning. She explained that curiosity is a trait highly valued in all applicants, particularly entry-level candidates. “Curious individuals are eager to learn and willing to let go of outdated knowledge,” Tse states, highlighting the necessity for flexibility.

### Judgment

Brian Myerholtz, the global head of recruitment at Boston Consulting Group (BCG), echoed the sentiment that strong judgment and problem-solving skills remain critical. However, with AI’s influence, the bar has been raised. “It is no longer sufficient to arrive at answers quickly,” he noted. Talents are now expected to leverage AI for exploring options, testing ideas, and applying critical thinking.

Francesca Jones from EY USA pointed out that the focus has shifted from academic excellence to finding adaptable candidates. “Much of our current work is characterized by uncertainty, requiring individuals who can navigate ambiguity,” she noted. The modern applicant is expected to engage actively in ongoing self-improvement, rather than merely converting weaknesses into strengths.

Kathy Diaz from Cognizant emphasized that adaptability encompasses various abilities, such as a willingness to learn and critical thinking skills. “Things are changing rapidly; hence, being adaptable is essential,” she claimed.

As organizations embrace AI technologies, the importance of human insight and collaboration persists. Employers are increasingly relying on selection tests—like online case studies and behavioral assessments—to streamline their candidate selection processes. AI may expedite these procedures, but the unique value created by human input remains irreplaceable.
