Barcelona will reward entities that bet on the reduction of disposable plastics or single use with a 10% bonus on the public price in 2023.

The 2023 public price ordinance -in relation to the new Barcelona Plàstic Zero objective- has incorporated a discount for businesses that contribute to the objective of minimizing this waste. Thus, this bonus is added to those already existing for the presentation of a sustainability plan.

But who will get this tax credit?

The shops of food, household cleaning and personal hygiene products that sell minimum a third of their products in bulk, with no single-use plastics or in returnable reusable packaging will be rewarded by the bonus.

So will be the butchers, poultry shops, delicatessens, bacon, fish and shellfish and saltfish that serve products in reusable and returnable containers offered by the same establishment or that agree to serve in reusable containers provided by the same customers. Non-food trade establishments and local services such as dry cleaners, florists, hairdressers that totally avoid single-use plastics are also collected in the list of bonuses, as the nursing homes or nurseries that they use at least one third of reusable nappies. Other entities with voluntary actions to reduce or eliminate single-use plastics of special relevance that the applicant can sufficiently justify may also benefit.
