The sex scene in Poor Things was so gross that the film had to be edited afterwards

Awarded at the Golden Globe for his role Emma Stone defend a blockbuster film of Poor Things splashy sex scenes that have attracted attention. One of the sex scenes in the film was even so questionable that it had to be changed afterwards due to British legislation.

In the film, Stone stars as Bella Baxter, who is brought back to life by the eccentric Dr. Godwin Baxter (Willem Dafoe) after Bella jumps to her death from a bridge. Bella must learn to live again and runs away from lawyer Duncan Wedderburn (Mark Ruffalo) with. During the film, Bella discovers new aspects of herself – including sexually.

In one scene, two young boys follow Bella, who works as a sex worker, when their father hires her to teach them about sex. The scene had to be changed afterwards because the British Classification Authority considered it too raunchy.

Stone says For Gameradarthat the sex scenes in the film were “intense”, but carefully choreographed.

– [Seksikohtaukset] were really nice. There were very few people there and we had a wonderful coordinator Elle McAlpine. “In some ways, those scenes were kind of easier than the others because they were so choreographed and straightforward,” says Stone.

– I was well prepared for those scenes to happen, because it seemed necessary for Bella’s journey and growth. They feel very clinical and often really funny, at least in my opinion.

BBC Radio 4 -channel, Stone says that the sex scenes were about the honesty of the film’s story.

– Bella is completely free and she is not ashamed of her body. He can’t be embarrassed about those things. If we were to say “okay, we’ll cut all of this out because society works a certain way,” that would seem like a lack of integrity.

Poor Things was chosen as the best musical or comedy film at the Golden Globe Awards. Stone was awarded in the category of Best Actress in a Motion Picture Musical or Comedy, which was also nominated Dead leaves – star Alma Pöysti.

Poor Things had its Finnish premiere on January 12. The film is based on the author by Alasdair Gray to the 1992 novel of the same name.
